Tensile Shade Structure

TENSILE SHADE STRUCTURES

This arrangement of twenty-seven trapezoidal shaped shade structures. was designed to fit an existing area of equestrian turn-out paddocks.  The irregular layout meant that each shade would need to be unique.  Rather than design an extraordinarily complex series of rigid roof structures, it was decided a tensile-fabric shade system would be more cost effective and adaptable to the unusual layout.

The curved design of the shades is known as a hyperbolic-paraboloid.  This shape maximizes shade in each of the paddocks while also creating proper tensioning and allowing wind to pass through the shades without "fluttering" - which would potentially spook the horses.
