This can be a difficult question to answer without understanding the full scope of a project, the project size, the complexity of the project, and the required services. ArchitecturalFees.com is one of the more comprehensive resources about architectural fees and how they may be structured. One note, the construction cost section may be outdated. Please consult your contractor for current construction costs.

Generally speaking, Yardstick Studio's architectural fees range from about 4% to 15% of a project's construction costs.
In most cases it would be best to engage with an Architect prior to selecting a contractor. This allows for the project to be more clearly defined, which can help in the selection process of contractor. This can help ensure the contractor selected has the experience, resources, and ability to complete the proposed project.

This is not always the case, however. Many Yardstick Studio projects have come from clients with prior relationships with a preferred contractor, or from contractors that we've worked with in the past.

The goal is to assemble a cohesive team, working together to bring your project to completion and realize your vision.
Yes, Yardstick Studio's Architectural Services extend beyond the design process - through permitting, construction, and completion of the project.
Yes, Currently Yardstick Studio is licensed in Colorado, Florida, Missouri, and Idaho. Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa have NCARB reciprocity licensure as well.

Yardstick Studio has also completed work in Antarctica, which currently does not have local licensing requirements, but something to keep in mind should you have a potential project there.

Note: some states may have additional licensing requirements where it may be more practical to partner with a local architect of record for the project.
Yardstick Studio's primary work is in residential and equestrian design and construction. However, as seen in the Technical & Specialized portfolio, there are many projects that don't fit into a traditional category. If you have a project that could benefit from innovative, functional, and enduring design, please reach out. Let's discuss your project and see if we're a good fit.
As involved as you would like to be, although the most successful projects are typically those where the client is an active participant in the design process. We view every project as a collaboration. Your ideas, priorities, lifestyle, and feedback are essential to creating a project that truly reflects how your goals and what you value.

Throughout the project, we'll guide you through key decisions, present options, and provide professional recommendations, but your input will help shape the outcome at every stage. Our role is to bring expertise in design, construction, and project management, while your role is to help define the vision. Together, we function as a team working toward the same goal: a project that exceeds your expectations.
The design timeline varies depending on the size, complexity, and goals of the project, as well as how quickly decisions are made during the process. For most residential projects, the design phase can range from a few months for a modest renovation to six months or more for a custom home or complex addition.

We believe thoughtful design takes time. Our process is intentionally collaborative, allowing opportunities to explore ideas, evaluate options, and refine details before construction begins. While every project is unique, we will establish a project schedule early in the process and keep you informed of progress, milestones, and decision points throughout the design journey.

Ultimately, our goal is not simply to work quickly, but to create a design that is carefully considered, well-coordinated, and aligned with your vision.
